Four different scorers helped Fluminense maintain its unbeaten start to the Brasileiro season as it cruised to a 4-1 win over Portuguesa on Saturday.

Fluminense has taken nine points from its first five games, earning two wins while being held to three draws.

Wellington Nem bagged the only goal of the opening period at the Estadio Olimpico Joao Havelange, but the home side doubled its lead seven minutes after the restart thanks to Anderson.

Ricardo Jesus pulled one back for Portuguesa 10 minutes later, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation goal as Fred and Manuel Lanzini put the result beyond any doubt with goals in the final 11 minutes.

The result leaves Portuguesa on four points through five games this season.

Also on Saturday, Cruzeiro inched closer to top spot in the Brasileiro table as it claimed a 1-0 win over Figueirense to improve to 11 points this term, while Botafogo came from behind in a 2-1 defeat of Internacional.

Santos is still searching for its first win of the campaign as it has held in a 1-0 loss to Flamengo on Sunday. The storied club sits fourth from bottom in the table after Ponte Preta claimed a 1-0 win over Corinthians and Coritiba eased past Goianiense in a 3-0 win on Sunday.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Nautico edged Gremio in a 1-0 win, Sao Paulo earned a 1-0 win over Atletico Mineiro, Palmeiras and Vasco da Gama played to a 1-1 draw and Bahia left it late in a 2-1 defeat of Sport Recife.
