GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida coach Will Muschamp is sticking with struggling quarterback Jeff Driskel, who is coming off arguably the worst game of his college career.
Muschamp says the fourth-year junior "needs to play better" and that Driskel "gives us the best opportunity to win right now."
Driskel completed 9 of 28 passes for 93 yards, with a touchdown and two interceptions, in a 42-21 loss at Alabama on Saturday. He was particularly ineffective on deep passes, misfiring on 14 of 16 throws that went at least 10 yards.
Muschamp says Driskel "certainly forced some things that we can't afford to do, and especially on two of the interceptions."
The coach also says former Florida great Emmitt Smith called to apologize for tweeting Saturday that Driskel should be benched.
