NEW YORK (Reuters) - Philadelphia defensive end Trent Cole topped the list of fines imposed by the NFL for improper hits last week, when he was fined $20,000 for striking Houston quarterback Matt Schaub in the knee area last week, NFL.com reported Friday.
Four other players were also sanctioned by the league.
Detroit defensive end Cliff Avril was fined $15,000 for roughing the passer when he struck Bears quarterback Jay Cutler in the face last Sunday. Avril had three sacks in Detroit's loss.
Buffalo running back Quinton Ganther was hit with a $5,000 fine for unnecessary roughness after being flagged for a roughing-the-punter penalty during a loss to Minnesota. Bills guard Andy Levitre was fined $7,500, also for unnecessary roughness, after he struck a Minnesota opponent late.
