Rodney Childers and driver Kevin Harvick came up a few ounces short on fuel during Sunday's Cheez-It 355 at The Glen, but the Stewart-Haas Racing crew chief had a little surprise at the house on Monday.
With two victories already this season and a spot in the 16-driver Chase locked up, Childers and Harvick had the ability to gamble on fuel to the end, but needed a caution to help them out. While the caution never came, the gamble almost paid off as the defending Sprint Cup Series champion led until the final corner of the final lap, when he was passed by race-winner Joey Logano.
When Childers returned from work Monday afternoon, one of his rival crew members decided to have a little fun with their misfortune on the track. Thankfully, it was all in good fun.
