New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Sebastian Fernandez was named the Player of the Week on Monday for Week 30 of the 2014 Major League Soccer season.
Fernandez buried a pair of goals inside the first 18 minutes on to keep his side in playoff contention with a 2-0 win over FC Dallas at BC Place.
Fernandez's first goal came in the 14th minute of the game when the ball was played out right to midfielder Mauro Rosales who sent a first-time cross into the box that was met with a header by Fernandez.
He then put the result away with his second goal of the match four minutes later with a blistering strike past Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez following a through ball from Rosales.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North America Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
