Sevilla kicked off its La Liga season with a 2-1 win over Getafe at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Saturday.

The home side dominated from the opening whistle and could have found itself leading by several goals inside the opening 30 minutes.

Instead, the opening goal came in the 34th minute when Ivan Rakitic's cross was nodded into the back of the net by Federico Fazio.

Sevilla doubled its advantage moments later when it was awarded a penalty kick after Jose Antonio Reyes drew a foul in the box.

Alvaro Negredo converted with a left-footed effort to put the home side in the driver's seat.

Alexis made things interesting in second half when he nodded home a corner kick delivery from Pedro Leon five minutes after the restart, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation goal as Sevilla held on to take all three points.

Malaga 1, Celta Vigo 0

Vigo, Spain - Malaga started its La Liga campaign in dramatic fashion, grabbing a goal seven minutes from time to earn a 1-0 win over promoted side Celta Vigo.

Fabrice Olinga, who entered the match as a second-half substitute, produced the lone goal of the contest in the 87th minute to power free-spending Malaga to all three points at the Estadio Municipal de Balaidos.

Mallorca 2, Espanyol 1

Mallorca, Spain - Tomer Hemed scored early and then late to lift Mallorca to a 2-1 season-opening win over Espanyol.

Hemed put Mallorca in front inside of two minutes when he turned home Emilio Nsue's cross, only for Espanyol to respond a few minutes later through Wakaso Mubarak, who got on the other end of a pass from Cristian Gomez, beat a defender and fired his shot past goalkeeper Dudu Aouate.

The match remained level until the 85th minute, when Hemed once again popped up to fire home the winner.

Michael Pereira's long-range effort came back off the crossbar and Hemed was on hand to pounce, finishing off the rebound to give his side a successful start to the new campaign.
