The St. Louis Rams approached Brett Favre about coming out of retirement, but the 44-year-old former quarterback turned them down, FOX Sports NFL Insider Alex Marvez confirms.

Favre came out of retirement in 2008 and was traded from the Packers to the Jets. He signed with the Vikings as a free agent in 2009 and called it quits after the 2010 season.

The Rams are seeking a replacement for starting quarterback Sam Bradford, who was placed on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury.

Favre threw for 71,838 yards and 508 touchdowns - both NFL records -- during his 20-year career and was named to the Pro Bowl 11 times.
