London, England – The FA Cup quarterfinal match between Bolton and Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Saturday was abandoned after Bolton's Fabrice Muamba collapsed in the 41st minute.
The 23-year-old fell to the turf with no players around him and medics rushed onto the field with a defibrillator in an effort to resuscitate him.
Muamba was treated on the field for around six minutes before being taken from the pitch on a stretcher while medics continued to administer treatment.
Referee Howard Webb then abandoned the contest with players from both sides leaving the field.
According to a statement from Bolton, Muamba was taken to the hospital with no further details available.
Muamba joined Bolton in June 2008 and has been a part of England's youth system having represented the Three Lions at last year's European Under-21 Championship.
