Buffalo had a slight edge in shooting from the field (38.9 percent to 38.8 percent), but made 24 of 31 free throw attempts to 7 of 15 for Texas Arlington.

Erick Neal led the Mavericks (1-1) with 15 points, Lonnie McClanahan had 12, and Johnny Hill 11.

The Mavericks led 13-12 at 12:23 on a jumper by Kevin Hervey, trailed, then tied it at 28 on a 3-pointer by Neal. Reagan hit a trey and Xavier Ford made a layup in the final seconds to give the Bulls a 35-31 halftime lead.

Buffalo led 59-52 at 8:04 in the second half on a jumper by Moss, then used an 8-0 run to stay ahead.
