LONDON – Europe has named its first four players for the team to face the United States in next month's Solheim Cup.
Suzann Pettersen of Norway, Gwladys Nocera of France and Charley Hull and Melissa Reid of England took automatic places in the 12-member team. Reid secured her spot after finishing in a tie for fifth at the Tipsport Masters in the Czech Republic on Sunday, the final tournament of the qualifying race.
Europe captain Carin Koch will complete her lineup on Aug. 25 when she names the next four automatic qualifiers from the women's world rankings and her four wild cards.
The Solheim Cup will be played Sept. 18-20 at the St. Leon-Rot Golf Club in Germany.
Europe is looking for a third consecutive victory in the event.
