Top-seeded and reigning Acapulco champion Sara Errani was a straight-set winner in second round action at the Mexican Open tennis event.

The Italian Errani had no problems in a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win over Canadian Eugenie Bouchard on the red clay at the Fairmont Acapulco Princess.

Errani, the 2012 French Open runner-up and last week's Dubai runner-up, is the reigning titlist here, having beaten Flavia Pennetta in last year's all- Italian finale.

Second-seeded Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro had an equally easy time in her match against France's Stephanie Foretz Gacon, 6-1, 6-2, while third-seeded Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, a finalist at this event in 2008, took a 6-4, 6-4 win over Spain's Estrella Cabeza Candela.

A pair of matches ended in retirement as fourth-seeded Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu left her match in the second set against Silvia Soler-Espinosa and Spain's Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor also retired in the second set in a match against seventh-seeded compatriot Lourdes Dominguez Lino.

Fifth-seeded Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands cruised past Spanish qualifier Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 6-1, 6-2 and sixth-seeded Italian Francesca Schiavone took a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sesil Karatantcheva of Kazakhstan.

Italian Karin Knapp pulled off an upset with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) win over Swiss Romina Oprandi.

The 2013 Acapulco champ will collect $40,000.
