Early goals propel Roma past Cagliari

Rome, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Roma continued its perfect start to the Serie A campaign on Sunday as goals from Mattia Destro and Alessandro Florenzi in the opening 15 minutes powered the club to a 2-0 home victory over Cagliari.

Roma has won its first three games without conceding a goal in the league, while Rudi Garcia's men have also claimed a 5-1 win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League to get out of the blocks quickly.

The hosts started fast on Sunday and Cagliari goalkeeper Alessio Cragno needed to be alert to keep out a good chance from Destro in the opening four minutes.

But Destro was on target six minutes later and he put Roma in front by taking a pass from Florenzi and slotting his shot off the post and into the net.

Three minutes later, Roma went 2-0 up with Daniele De Rossi and Gervinho combining to set up Florenzi for a simple finish six yards from goal.

Cagliari had chances of its own in the match but Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis kept out a good opportunity in the second half from Samuel Longo as the netminder was able to tip the shot to safety as it was headed for the top corner.

Parma got off the mark on Sunday with two goals from Antonio Cassano in the final 25 minutes to earn a 3-2 win at Chievo, while Mauricio Pinilla's 87th- minute goal lifted Genoa to a 1-0 victory over Lazio.

Udinese won for the second time in three games thanks to a goal from Danilo in the 70th minute of a 1-0 win against Napoli, Fiorentina edged Atalanta, 1-0, with Jasmin Kurtic scoring the lone goal in the second half, Sampdoria remains unbeaten but the club was held to a 0-0 draw at Sassuolo, Inter Milan traded first-half goals with Palermo in a 1-1 deadlock, and Hellas Verona owns seven points from three games after edging Torino, 1-0, through a 66th-minute goal from Artur Ionita.
