Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Eagles have signed defensive lineman Alejandro Villanueva, recently an active member of the U.S. Army.
Villanueva spent the last four years serving three tours of Afghanistan and was most recently promoted to captain. He has earned numerous honors for his service, including the Bronze Star Medal for valor.
The Eagles watched Villanueva perform at the Super Regional Combine in Detroit last month. He last played football for Army as a wide receiver in 2009 and led the team with 34 catches, 522 yards and five touchdowns.
Villanueva, at 6-foot-9 and 277 pounds, began his collegiate football career as a reserve defensive lineman from 2006-07, then switched to offensive tackle in 2008 before his last change to receiver.
