Philadelphia Eagles left tackle Jason Peters is one of the NFL's best left tackles, and after he left Sunday night's Week 7 27-16 loss to the Carolina Panthers, the Eagles' pass protection collapsed.
After Peters left the game, the Eagles shifted Matt Tobin over to left tackle and brought in Dennis Kelly at guard. If Peters is out for an extended period, this might not be the line that the Eagles use going forward. Per Pro Football Focus, the Eagles allowed a combined 2 sacks, 5 quarterback hits and 17 additional hurries.
The two players at new positions -- Tobin and Kelly -- were the biggest culprits when it came to the pass protection breakdowns. Per PFF, Tobin allowed 3 sacks and 4 additional hurries. Kelly allowed one quarterback hit and 5 additional hurries.
There has been no update on Peters' apparent back injury, but the bye week couldn't have come at a better team for the Eagles' offensive line. The Eagles are still searching for an identity in their passing game, but the first thing they have to do is fix the issues up front in pass protection. Keep an eye out for a potential change or two along the offensive line to emerge during the team's Week 8 bye.
