Schalke duo Jefferson Farfan and Benedikt Howedes both sustained injuries while on international duty, with Farfan expected to be out until January.

The Peru international striker sustained a torn ligament in his knee during a 2-0 defeat against Ecuador in World Cup qualifying and has been told he will need four weeks of rest before beginning rehabilitation work.

Howedes suffered a similar injury for Germany in the team's 3-0 friendly win over the Netherlands, although further tests will be done on Thursday to determine the severity of the injury.

Farfan has tallied 22 goals in 102 league appearances for Schalke, while Howedes has started all 12 of the club's league games this season.
