Borussia Dortmund's new signing, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, is set to miss the start of his club's season after he was ruled out for up to four weeks with a foot injury.

Mkhitaryan was signed this summer for a club-record fee of $36 million, and after impressing in his first two friendly matches for the club, he sustained a foot injury in a win over FC Luzern.

Dortmund issued a statement on Wednesday saying that Mkhitaryan has suffered a partial ligament tear in his right foot, meaning that he will miss the German Supercup match against Bayern Munich on July 27.

The 24-year-old is facing a race to be fit in time for Dortmund's Bundesliga opener, which comes at Augsburg on Aug. 10.
