Dortmund, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Borussia Dortmund winger Jakub Blaszczykowski has been ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in Dortmund's 2-2 draw with Augsburg.
Blaszczykowski was injured just six minutes into Saturday's match and he is now expected to miss a significant amount of time.
The 28-year-old revealed on his Facebook page that he will undergo surgery on Thursday to repair the problem, with the club speculating that his return could come sometime late in the summer.
A Poland international, Blaszczykowski has scored two goals in 16 games this term for Dortmund, which has been plagued by injuries throughout the campaign.
Defenders Neven Subotic and Mats Hummels have both suffered serious knee injuries while midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has missed a large portion of the season due to a back problem.
Dortmund sits 14 points adrift of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich in third place.
