Dodgers re-sign OF Juan Rivera

The Los Angeles Dodgers re-signed veteran year contract on Thursday.

Rivera was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays on July 12 and was an offensive spark for the Dodgers' second-half success, when the team went 41-28 after the All-Star break.

In 62 games for Los Angeles, Rivera batted .274 with 46 runs batted in.

"Juan proved to be a valuable addition to our lineup last season both in terms of his versatility and run production," general manager Ned Colletti said. "He is capable of playing three positions and his production against left-handed pitchers gives the club added balance."

Rivera has appeared in 949 career games with the Yankees, Expos, Angels, Blue Jays and Dodgers and is a career .277 hitter with a .449 slugging percentage.
