Madrid, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Diego returned to Atletico Madrid on Friday after leaving German side Wolfsburg for a reported fee of $2 million.
The Brazilian's contract was set to expire at the end of the season, and there was speculation that he would return to Brazil to play for Santos on a free transfer this summer.
But the 28-year-old has instead opted to go back to Atletico, where he spent the 2011-12 season on loan.
Diego moved to Wolfsburg from Juventus in 2010 after featuring in 77 matches for the Italian outfit, scoring 19 goals with 19 assists.
So far this season Diego has netted three goals and assisted on two more in 15 Bundesliga starts.
