PERTH, Australia (AP) The Australian football club Perth Glory says it's signing Spanish winger Diego Castro Gimenez for the upcoming A-League season.

Castro has spent most of his professional career in Spain's La Liga, including five years with Sporting Gijon and the last four with Getafe. He left Getafe when his contract expired this year.

Perth said the 33-year-old Castro will be formally signed as an international marquee player when he receives a medical clearance.

Each A-League team is allowed three marquee players whose salaries are exempt from the league's salary cap.

Other marquee players to join the league in the latter stages of their careers include former Italy international Alessandro Del Piero (Sydney FC), former England star Robbie Fowler (North Queensland Fury, Perth Glory), and former Manchester United star Dwight Yorke (Sydney).
