Real Madrid signed Argentina winger Angel Di Maria to a contract extension through 2017-18 on Thursday.

Di Maria, 24, joined Real Madrid from Benfica on a six-year contract in 2010, and developed into a starter for the Spanish squad. He had seven goals and 16 assists last season and has been handed a two-year extension.

"Playing in Real Madrid is something very important. I'm fulfilling a dream," Di Maria said. "I'm very happy here and the extension of my contract gives me the possibility to continue with Real Madrid for many years."

Di Maria started his club career with Rosario Central in Argentina, and joined Benfica in 2007. He debuted for Argentina in 2008, and has played 29 times for his country.
