The New Jersey Devils' streak of not allowing a first-period goal came to an end Tuesday night.
The Devils hadn't allowed a first-period goal in their last 16 games, dating back to Feb. 4 in Florida, until Atlanta's Tim Stapleton beat Martin Brodeur at 15:24 of the opening period, Thrashers forward Chris Thorburn made it 2-0 just 65 seconds later.
The streak is the longest in the NHL since the introduction of the red line in the 1940s.
