Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - The New Jersey Devils have acquired forward Tuomo Ruutu from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forward Andrei Loktionov and a conditional third-round draft choice in 2017.

Ruutu has just five goals and 11 assists for 16 points in 57 games this season. He joined Carolina in a February 2008 trade from Chicago and has 138 goals with 186 assists for 324 points in 606 career games in 10 NHL seasons with the Hurricanes and Blackhawks.

The 31-year-old Finn's best season was 2008-09 when he notched 26 goals with 28 assists for 54 points in 79 games. He played just 17 games during the lockout-shortened 2013 campaign because of hip surgery.

Loktionov has just four goals and eight assists for 12 points in 48 games this season. He joined the Devils before the 2013 campaign and notched eight goals with four assists in 28 games during the shortened schedule.

The 23-year-old Russian native also spent parts of three seasons with the Los Angeles Kings and appeared in two playoff games during the club's run to the Stanley Cup title in the spring of 2012.

"Andrei is a young, skilled forward who will play on our power play," said Hurricanes president and general manager Jim Rutherford. "Tuomo was a good player for the Hurricanes and we thank him for his contributions to our organization over the past seven years."

In 135 career NHL games, Loktionov has 19 goals and 19 assists for 38 points.
