The Hague, Netherlands (SportsNetwork.com) - Den Haag announced on Wednesday that the club has fired manager Maurice Steijn after a poor run of results that has dropped the team into last place in the Eredivisie.
Den Haag currently sits two points from safety after a run of five defeats in six matches, with assistant coach Henk Fraser taking temporary charge of the first-team affairs.
The 40-year-old Steijn took charge of Den Haag following the 2011 season and helped the club avoid relegation with a 15th-place finish in his first campaign before ending last season in ninth place.
Steijn spent time at Den Haag as a player before beginning his coaching career with the club's youth team before being promoted to manager.
The team's first match under Fraser comes Friday at second-place Vitesse.
