Gstaad, Switzerland (SportsNetwork.com) - Fifth seed Federico Delbonis moved on, while eighth-seeded Dominic Thiem came up a first-round loser Monday at the Swiss Open tennis event.
The Argentine Delbonis drubbed German Dustin Brown 6-3, 6-3, while Serbian wild card Viktor Troicki upended the promising 20-year-old Austrian Thiem 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 on the red clay at Roy Emerson Arena.
Also on a rain-interrupted Day 1, Kazakhstan's Andrey Golubev overcame Spanish qualifier Inigo Cervantes 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), Argentine Juan Monaco topped 2008 champion Victor Hanescu of Romania 6-4, 7-5 and Spaniard Daniel Gimeno- Traver was tied with Swiss wild card Yann Marti 7-5, 6-7 (7-9), 5-5 when play was suspended because of darkness.
This week's top seed is Russian veteran and reigning champion Mikhail Youzhny, who beat Dutchman Robin Haase in last year's Gstaad finale.
The 2014 Swiss Open champion will earn $105,000.
