DAYTON, Ohio – Chris Johnson knocked down three free throws in the final 9 seconds to seal Dayton's 63-61 win over St. Bonaventure on Wednesday night.
The Flyers (16-7, 4-4 Atlantic 10 Conference) led 60-58 with 16 seconds left to play when Johnson stepped to the free-throw line and knocked down both attempts, giving Dayton a two-possession lead with 9 seconds on the clock.
Andrew Nicholson hit a 3-pointer with 2 seconds to go, pulling the Bonnies (11-10, 3-5) within one, 62-61. But Johnson, who finished with 14 points, made one of two free throws to preserve the victory for Dayton.
Chris Wright added 11 for the Flyers, who forced 19 turnovers and outscored St. Bonaventure 20-2 in bench points.
Nicholson finished with a career-high 35 points on 15-of-23 shooting (65.2 percent) and grabbed 11 rebounds. The rest of the Bonnies combined to go 10 for 33 from the field (30.3 percent).
