Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Former top-five star and 2009 round winners at the $850,000 Malaysian Open, which is part of the Asian swing on the ATP World Tour.
The fifth-seeded Davydenko drilled young American Ryan Harrison 6-3, 6-2, while the eighth-seeded Nishikori came from behind to beat Russian qualifier Teymuraz Gabashvili 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 on the indoor hardcourts at Putra Stadium.
Up next for Davydenko will be Poland's Lukasz Kubot, while Nishikori will meet German Philipp Petzschner.
Additional Day-2 wins came for Kubot, Petzschner, Spaniard Albert Ramos, Indian Somdev Devvarman, and South African qualifier Rik De Voest, who overcame American Ryan Sweeting 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. De Voest is rewarded with a second-round match against fourth-seeded Austrian Jurgen Melzer on Wednesday. Ramos will face top-seeded fellow Spaniard Nicolas Almagro on Thursday, while Devvarman will face former top-20 star Marcos Baghdatis on Day 3.
The 2011 Kuala Lumpur champion will collect $155,000.
