In the battle of the Spaniards, David Ferrer trounced on countryman Feliciano López.
The tennis players battled in the Monte Carlo Masters on Wednesday, with Ferrer coming out on top, 6-2, 6-0. The fourth-seeded Ferrer broke López five times in the second round matchup.
López didn't do himself any favors, either: the underdog committed six double-faults in the loss.
The victory comes less than a month Ferrer, frustrated with a baby crying during a match in the Sony Ericsson Open, lobbed a ball toward the infant. The embarrassing incident, captured on video, went viral almost immediately.
Meanwhile, Viktor Troicki, the 11-seed out of Serbia, No. 13 Richard Gasquet of France and No. 15 Marin Cilic of Croatia also advanced to the third round. Troicki beat Fabio Fognini of Italy 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, while Gasquet defeated Guillermo García-López of Spain 6-2, 6-1.
Cilic was leading Pere Riba 5-2 when the Spaniard retired.
Six-time defending champion Rafael Nadal, who was knocked out of the Sony Ericsson Open earlier this month, was to play later Wednesday against Jarkko Nieminen of Finland. The top-ranked Spaniard is looking for his first title since last October.
