Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice for May 9

5 Things to Watch:

1. Here are the three highest over/unders for Monday, provided by OddsShark...

2. Rain is in the forecast for SD/CHC (Jon Lester) and BAL/MIN (bats). Be sure to monitor the situation in both locations before committing to a DFS lineup.

3. For the BvP readers, Derek Dietrich is 8-14 (.571) against Wily Peralta and Daniel Murphy is 5-10 (.500) with two extra-base hits against Anibal Sanchez.

4. Rubby De La Rosa is getting his scheduled start pushed back to Tuesday. Archie Bradley will get the call-up and the nod for Arizona. In his lone outing this season, Bradley allowed five earned runs to the Giants.

5. The Marlins (-243), Cubs (-240), and Nationals (-182) are the three strongest favorites for Monday night. With rain possible in Chicago and the Brewers being the fifth-most strikeout-prone team, I'd lean towards Jose Fernandez, especially in one-SP DFS formats.

Yesterday's recap:

D.J. Foster gave you a great deal when he suggested Marco Estrada as a starting pitcher. He struck out eight and allowed only one earned run in seven innings.

Must-Start of the day: Jose Fernandez, MIA

His Marlins are the biggest favorite on the board. In 29 career starts at home, Fernandez is 19-1 with a 1.71 ERA. This is actually his first start against the Brewers in his lifetime. As mentioned in the "5 Things," Milwaukee has struck out 275 times this season, the fifth-most in baseball.

Deal of the day: Brandon Phillips, CIN

DFS sites are finally raising Dat Dude's salary, but he's still a deal. This year, he has a .333 ISO against southpaws. In Phillips' career, he's 9-21 (.429) with two home runs against Jon Niese.

Avoid of the day: Joey Votto, CIN

He is 2-17 (.118) with nine strikeouts against Jon Niese.

Stack of the day: Texas Rangers

I love all players from the ARI/COL game, but they may not fit your budget, especially with expensive pitchers on the docket. For that reason, I'll pivot to the Rangers as the best stack for Monday. Rougned Odor, Nomar Mazara, and Adrian Beltre are all great additions to a DFS lineup.

Starting pitchers:

Jon Lester, CHC - The Padres have struck out the second-most times in MLB (305 Ks). Lester has punched out 10 batters in two of the past four outings. This season, though Lester is winless at Wrigley (0-1), he has a 2.21 ERA and has struck out 25 batters in those 20.1 innings of work.

Jose Fernandez, MIA - "Must-start of the day."

Matt Moore, TB - Even with Felix Hernandez pitching for the Mariners, Seattle isn't as strong of a favorite (-126). Seattle has an implied run total of 3.67. Moore has also struck out at least five batters in five of the past six starts in 2016.

Catchers:

David Ross, CHC - With Lester on the hill, Ross will be behind the plate. This season, Ross has a .194 ISO against right-handed pitchers.

Chris Herrmann, ARI - Hopefully, with a righty on the hill, Herrmann will get another start. In the past 15 days, Herrmann has only four starts but has an average of 19.6 DK points per game.

First basemen:

Anthony Rizzo, CHC - He has a .438 ISO against righties this season.

David Ortiz, BOS - Is this really Big Papi's last season? He has a .405 ISO against righties this year.

Mark Reynolds, COL - His best split stats is when Reynolds' Rockies are at Coors Field, and against a right-handed pitcher.

Second basemen:

Rougned Odor, TEX - He has a .265 ISO against righties in 2016.

Brandon Phillips, CIN - "Deal of the day."

Daniel Murphy, WAS - (See "5 Things")

Third basemen:

Nolan Arenado, COL - He has a .400 ISO this season when the Rockies are at home and facing a righty.

Todd Frazier, CWS - He has a .262 ISO against righties this season.

Brandon Drury, ARI - He leads the DBacks this season with a .390 ISO against righties.

Eugenio Suarez, CIN - Suarez has a .273 ISO against lefties this season.

Jake Lamb, ARI - He's averaging 10.3 DK points per game in the past 15 days, when a righty is pitching.

Shortstops:

Trevor Story, COL - He has a .315 ISO against righties this season. While he's better against lefties, Story is also solid when a right-handed pitcher is throwing at Coors Field. At that point, his ISO improves to .357.

Jean Segura, ARI - He has a .172 ISO against righties this season.

Outfielders:

Carlos Gonzalez, COL - On FanDuel, his price tag is only $3,900. That's ridiculously cheap for a No. 3 hitter in the highest projected scoring offense.

Gregory Polanco, PIT - He has a .217 ISO against righties this season.

Nomar Mazara, TEX - He bats second and is second on the Rangers with a .237 ISO against righties.

Billy Hamilton, CIN - In 2016, he has a .286 ISO against left-handed pitchers.

Matt Joyce, PIT - He has a .394 ISO against righties this season.

Austin Jackson, CWS - If he bats second, Jackson is another solid deal. He's 13-34 (.382) against Colby Lewis.
