CHICAGO (Reuters) - Hot-tempered Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano has been put on the restricted list and will be required to undergo treatment for anger issues, the team said on its website Monday.
Zambrano was suspended by the Cubs when he lost his temper against the Chicago White Sox Friday, the pitcher yelling as he came off the field before engaging in a shouting match with team mate Derrek Lee.
The move to the restricted list means Zambrano will be paid while out of action but he is not expected to return until after the All-Star Game on July 13.
The 29-year-old is in the middle of a five-year $91 million contract but he has a history of temper issues, including a dugout fight with a team mate in 2007.
He is 3-6 with a 5.66 ERA in 22 games this season, including nine starts.
