Columbus Crew defender Julius James has been hospitalized with a collapsed lung, the Major League Soccer club said Friday.

"Julius has successfully undergone a corrective procedure," Crew President and General Manager Mark McCullers said in a statement, "to treat a spontaneous pneumothorax (collapsed lung) that was diagnosed on Thursday.

"He remains hospitalized and his condition will be monitored closely in the coming days, but he is resting comfortably and his prognosis for a full recovery is excellent, which is our primary concern.

"No timeline for his return to action has been established at this time."

James started 31 games last year for Columbus, but has not made an appearance this season.
