Peyton Manning could use a new security blanket. A tight end trade could do the trick. Ed Szczepanski and Geoff Burke USA TODAY Sports

There's a hole at Gary Kubiak's favorite position on the football field.

The Broncos head coach can fill it easily. He just needs to convince his boss, John Elway, to swing a deal for 49ers tight end Vernon Davis or Rams tight end Jared Cook.

According to reports, either player could be had in a deal. The NFL's trade deadline is Oct. 28.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher dispelled rumors bout Cook's availability yesterday. But Cook is owed $7 million in money -- that's high for a tight end -- and St. Louis could always reverse its course.

But of the two, Davis might be the more tantalizing target. He was an absolute monster during the height of San Francisco's power, but has fallen by the wayside through a team rebuild.

Perhaps the aging pass-catcher could help an aging quarterback out in Denver.
