DOVER, Del. – Cory Murphy rushed from one yard out to score a tie-breaking touchdown, capping a second-half rally that gave Delaware State a 14-7 victory over Norfolk State in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
Murphy was 14 of 25 for 112 yards. Though intercepted three times in the game, Murphy scored the winning touchdown with just over five minutes left to play after marching Delaware State 61 yards downfield in 18 plays. The Hornets (2-4, 2-1 MEAC) were held scoreless in the first half, but rallied in the second by keeping the ball on the ground and capitalizing on mistakes by the Spartans (2-4, 2-1).
The Delaware State defense forced five Spartan turnovers, including three interceptions and two fumbles. It also held Norfolk State to just 184 yards of total offense and a single touchdown, a 14-yard touchdown pass from QB Tyler Clark to Derrick Demps in the second quarter.
