Luxembourg, Luxembourg (SportsNetwork.com) - Second seed Alize Cornet and third-seeded Sabine Lisicki came up second-round losers Wednesday at the Luxembourg Open tennis event.

Dutchwoman Kiki Bertens took out the Frenchwoman Cornet 6-2, 6-3, while 21-year-old Czech qualifier Denisa Allertova stunned last year's Wimbledon runner-up and the 2009 Luxembourg finalist Lisicki 7-5, 6-2 at CK Sports Center Kockelscheuer.

Fourth-seeded Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova avoided an upset by handling Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck 6-4, 7-6 (7-1), while fifth-seeded American Varvara Lepchenko advanced by tackling Slovak Jana Cepelova 6-2, 6-2.

Other upsets came when German Annika Beck vanquished sixth-seeded Italian and 2010 Luxembourg champion Roberta Vinci 7-5, 6-0 and German Mona Barthel drove out eighth-seeded Romanian and two-time runner-up Monica Niculescu 0-6, 7-5, 6-3. Beck was last year's Luxembourg runner-up to former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki.

Also on Day 3, Austrian Patricia Mayr-Achleitner dismissed France's Pauline Parmentier 6-1, 7-5 and Swedish qualifier Johanna Larsson came back to best Slovenian Polona Hercog 6-7 (8-10), 7-5, 6-1.

Thursday's quarterfinal will pit Zahlavova Strycova against Larsson; Lepchenko versus the upstart Allertova; Mayr-Achleitner against Beck; and Barthel versus Bertens.

The 2014 Luxembourg titlist will collect $43,000.
