Guangzhou, China (SportsNetwork.com) - Second seed Alize Cornet beat former champion Su-Wei Hsieh to reach the semifinals at the Guangzhou International Open tennis event.
The French Cornet bested the Taiwanese wild card and 2012 champ Hsieh 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 on the hardcourts at Guangzhou International Tennis Center.
Cornet's semifinal opponent on Friday will be Swiss Timea Bacsinszky, who drubbed Spaniard Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor 6-2, 6-3 on Day 4.
Two other quarterfinals saw Chinese wild card Wang Yafan overcome Chinese qualifier Kai-Lin Zhang 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 and Romanian Monica Niculescu pound Puerto Rico's Monica Puig 6-2, 6-2. Wang will meet Niculescu in the other semi.
This week's champion will pocket $111,163.
