Four concussions in two years may signal the end of the line for rugged left wing Ryane Clowe.
New Jersey Devils general manager Ray Shero admitted that the 32-year-old Clowe has an uphill climb if he's going to return after taking an elbow to the head by St. Louis Blues captain David Backes last season.
"The last time he played was, what, Nov. 6? That's been a long time," Shero told NJ Advance Media on Thursday. "Training camp is next month, so at some point, in terms of how he is feeling, a determination has to be made by him and doctors as to what direction he can or cannot go."
Two seasons into a five-year, $24.25 million deal, Clowe scored one goal and set up three others in 13 games with the Devils in 2014-15. The Newfoundland native has recorded 112 tallies and 197 assists in 491 career contests with the San Jose Sharks, New York Rangers and Devils.
