Don’t go making any "Kaepernicking" T-shirts, as you could soon receive a cease and desist.
Colin Kaepernick has filed for a trademark on the term "Kaepernicking," which is his version of "Tebowing," according to ESPN. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback celebrates touchdowns by lifting his right arm to his helmet, "kissing" his bicep.
Kaepernick registered for the trademark on Jan. 14 according to the report with intended use on clothing, namely T-shirts. The website Sportiqe.com already has an official "Kaepernicking" T-shirt. Proceeds for the shirt go to Camp Taylor, a charity for children with congenital heart defects. Kaepernick’s adoptive parents have lost two children to heart defects.
Kaepernick’s 49ers will be taking on the Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3. San Francisco beat the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday 28-24. Kaepernick took over for Alex Smith at quarterback in Week 10 after Smith had suffered a concussion. After a strong Week 11 game against the Bears on Monday Night Football, head coach Jim Harbaugh named Kaepernick the starter for the rest of the season.
It was just Kaepernick’s second season in the NFL and he completed 62.4 percent of his passes for 1,814 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also rushed for 415 yards and five touchdowns during the regular season.
His playoff run to New Orleans was highlighted by his 181-yard rushing performance, an NFL record for a QB in any game, in a 45-31 win over Green Bay in the divisional round.
