Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles hurt his foot carrying a box, according to his coach.
Andy Reid said Monday that an X-ray and MRI on Charles' foot were both clear and that the team was optimistic about his recovery.
The star back didn't travel with the team for Sunday's preseason game against Carolina because of what the team called a bruised foot.
Reid said in a conference call with reporters that Charles was carrying a box from the dorms down a grassy slope when he rolled his foot.
"It was that simple and that was it," Reid said. "He was hurting that night and the next day he woke up he was feeling a little bit better. He is feeling better today."
Reid said he didn't know yet whether or not Charles would play or practice this week. The Chiefs play Minnesota on Saturday in their third preseason game.
Charles suffered a strained foot in training camp last August. He rushed for 1,287 yards and a career-high 12 touchdowns in 15 games last season.
