Chicharito Voted Player of the Year By Manchester United's Fans

The accolades keep on coming for Javier "Chicharito" Hernández, as he won the prestigious Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award by a fan vote on Manchester United's website.

Hernández eked out the win with 21 percent of the vote, just beating out Portuguese teammate Nani who received 20 percent of the vote.

The Mexican star has made himself a fan favorite as his dazzling play has continually won games for United.

Hernández has been instrumental in United's attack by scoring 20 goals during his first season with the club. ManU has won the Premier League and reached the Champion League final.

"I have to say thank you so much to the fans," Chicharito said according to the team site. "They have helped me a lot. I think this was a difficult decision to make and I don’t think I deserve it because it hasn’t been just one player who has played well. We are a team."

And Hernández seemed truly taken aback by the honor.

"The trophy is bigger than I am," he said with a laugh.

"To see the names on this trophy and now to see my name on it, its incredible," he said. I'm very happy because the fans have supported me from the first day, screaming my name."

But all of the praise for Hernández has come with a downside for the perennial soccer power, United, as it has drawn the eyes of international clubs who wish to add Chicharito to their arsenal.

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona have been said to have interest in the Mexican dynamo. And Barcelona's top player, Lionel Messi, the first player to 50 goals in Spain, says Hernández would fit in swimmingly.

“Hernandez could fit us. He speaks Spanish and has a great style," Messi saidf. "It is difficult to predict what he does in a fight next, and that’s what we see as a strength of our team," he said according to The Telegraph.

And with Real Madrid reportedly prepared to offer over $28 million for the 22-year-old, United is said to be making a move to triple Chicharito's salary to keep him.

Hernández receives over $28,000 a week which would become $85,000, according to the Daily Mail.

If reports are true, the breakout star could have even more reasons to smile.
