Celtics' Pierce sits out game with injured thumb

BOSTON (Reuters) - Paul Pierce sat out Boston's 110-106 victory over the New York Knicks Tuesday due to an injured right thumb, the Celtics reported on their website (www.nba.com/celtics/).

Pierce originally hurt the thumb against the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday and has struggled with his shooting since.

He leads the team with 17.9 points per game and is listed as day-to-day.
