Napoli announced on Friday that striker Edinson Cavani has signed a new contract that ties him to the club until 2017.

The Uruguay international has been the target of a big-money move to both Chelsea and Manchester City this summer, but he has ended speculation by committing himself to the club for a further five years.

Cavani has scored 49 goals in 68 appearances since he arrived from Palermo in 2010.

It was confirmed by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis that Cavani's new deal still has a release clause of $75 million.
