Former UFC strawweight champion Carla Esparza is still recovering from shoulder surgery, but she hopes to be ready to book a fight in about three months.
Esparza injured her shoulder during her last fight with Joanna Jedrzejczyk in March and ultimately had surgery in June as first reported by FOX Sports.
Now, Esparza is on the mend and she told "UFC Tonight" that recovery and rehabilitation are going well so far and if she's able to keep this pace then her return to action should be sooner rather than later.
The plan for now is to continue to work on the shoulder and then book a fight in about three months' time, with the actual bout taking place approximately two months after that.
Considering where she's at with rehab right now, Esparza isn't ready to start calling out other fighters or looking for a particular matchup but she's anxious to get back in action so she can pursue a rematch with Jedrzejczyk and reclaim the title.
Jedrzejczyk will face Valerie Letourneau for her second title defense in November at UFC 193 after defeating Esparza to win the belt and then picking up a win over Jessica Penne in June.
