The St. Louis Cardinals have finalized their roster for Wednesday's season-opener against Miami and have placed pitcher Chris Carpenter on the 15-day disabled list.

Carpenter has nerve irritation that has led to weakness in his right shoulder. The veteran right-hander did not appear in a game during spring training and there is no specific timetable for his return.

In 34 starts last season, Carpenter was 11-9 with a 3.45 ERA. He also went 4-0 with a 3.25 ERA in six playoff starts.

The Cardinals will also start the year with infielder Skip Schumaker and outfielder Allen Craig on the disabled list. Schumaker has an oblique tear, while Craig is recovering from offseason knee surgery.
