Stanford, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chasson Randle set a Stanford record, forced overtime with a late layup and helped the Cardinal knock off No. 21 Washington 68-60 on Sunday.
Randle scored a game-high 24 points on 9-of-21 shooting. His lone 3-point make in seven attempts was the 242nd of his career, good for first in Stanford history.
Anthony Brown added 16 points and Stefan Nastic tallied 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Cardinal (10-3, 2-0 Pac-12).
Washington scored just four points in overtime. It trailed 66-60 late when Randle intercepted a Mike Anderson pass and took it coast-to-coast for a layup that sealed the win.
Shawn Kemp Jr. had 19 points for Washington (11-3, 0-2), losers in three straight on the heels of 11 wins to begin the season.
Brown opened the second half with a 3-pointer from the right wing, giving Stanford its first lead. The spread reached seven before Kemp led Washington back.
His personal 7-0 run, which included a tip-in, a three-point play and two free throws, put the Huskies back in front. Randle's record-breaking triple tied the game at 43.
Stanford went cold, missing six straight shots and three free throws during a 4 1/2 stretch. Washington rattled off eight in a row before Randle's three-point play had the Cardinal back within two.
Randle missed a pull-up jumper and a layup in traffic on the next two trips, and Andrew Andrews canned a jumper to extend the lead to 56-52.
Brown made two free throws to cut it to a one-possession game and Nigel Williams-Goss missed the front end of a one-and-one, setting up Randle's game- tying layup, which came with 2.2 seconds on the clock.
Kemp outscored Stanford by himself, 10-8, over the first seven minutes of the game. Washington also got early 3-pointers by Jernard Jarreau and Andrews and led by eight.
The Huskies led by 10 midway through the period when Randle led Stanford back. His jumper following a pair of Brown free throws made it 25-19. He then scored four straight points with two from the stripe and a dunk.
Rosco Allen's late 3-pointer tied it at 28 at the end of the first half.
Game Notes
Former Stanford stars Jason and Jarron Collins were honored at halftime ... Robert Upshaw had 10 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks off Washington's bench. Anderson didn't score but did contribute 10 boards ... Stanford improved to 3-10 against Washington under Johnny Dawkins ... Both teams shot under 40 percent from the floor.
