North Palm Beach, FL – Tennis Hall-of-Famer Jennifer Capriati faces battery and stalking charges as the result of an alleged altercation with her former boyfriend last month.
According to Palm Beach County court records, the 36-year-old was issued a summons to appear before a judge next month on the charges. The former world No. 1 and three-time Grand Slam champion has not been arrested.
North Palm Beach police say Ivan Brannan was working out at a local gym on Valentine's Day last month when the 36-year-old Capriati approached him and started yelling at him. Brannan told police he tried to walk away by heading to the men's locker room, but Capriati got in front of him and then punched him several times in the chest.
Brannan told authorities Capriati has been harassing and stalking him since they broke up last year.
This isn't the first time the New York City native Capriati has had a legal and/or personal problem.
In 1993, she was charged with shoplifting a ring. She was arrested in May of 1994 and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession before eventually agreeing to enter a drug-counseling program.
Also in 1994, Capriati admitted to contemplating suicide, citing tennis burnout and issues concerning her appearance and relationships. And in 2010, she required treatment following an accidental drug overdose.
Capriati was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in July of last year.
