Jim Calhoun confirmed he has agreed to a four-year contract extension to remain at UConn.
"I've agreed to all the particulars," Calhoun told FOXSports.com on Thursday night. "It's just a matter of days or weeks, but everything has been agreed upon."
The news was first reported via a news release from his agent, Jeff Schwartz, by ESPN.com.
Calhoun, 68, has been working with UConn athletic director Jeff Hathaway on the deal for much of the past year.
However, Calhoun realized that waiting would only hinder his recruiting efforts.
Calhoun sounded excited by the prospect of point guard Kemba Walker returning and the incoming recruiting class which includes Roscoe Smith, Jeremy Lamb and Michael Bradley.
"We need to get another big man and we think we're close on another player," Calhoun said.
Calhoun's Huskies finished the season 17-15 overall and 7-11 in Big East play and were embarrassed earlier in the week by a St. John's team in the first round of the Big East tournament.
Calhoun said he would accept an invitation to the NIT.
"If we get invited, we'll go," Calhoun said. "I've never run from a fight and I'm not going to start now."
