PROVO, Utah (AP) BYU quarterback Taysom Hill plans to return for another season.

Hill announced via Twitter on Tuesday that he plans to apply for a waiver and is likely to be granted another season by the NCAA.

The senior quarterback missed most of the 2015 season after injuring his foot in the opener against Nebraska.

Hill was a Heisman Trophy candidate in 2013 after passing for 2,938 yards and rushing for 1,344 yards.

Offensive coordinator Ty Detmer said there will be an open competition between the quarterbacks despite the presence of Tanner Mangum, who became the first BYU freshman to throw for 3,000 yards last season.

Hill is expected to be limited in spring practices as he continues to heal. Detmer said he's been working out and doing some light jogging, but still has a way to go.
