Princeton, NJ – Butler, the two-time national runner ups, has been chosen as one of the 16 teams to participate in the College Basketball Invitational.
Butler became a national phenomenon with consecutive runs to the NCAA Tournament title game, but the Bulldogs were left out of the 68-team field this year after going 20-14. Their first test in the CBI is a home tilt against Delaware on Wednesday.
The tournament gets started with three games on Tuesday: Milwaukee visits TCU, San Francisco hosts Washington State and Princeton squares off against Evansville.
On Wednesday, Pittsburgh, which last year was a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, welcomes Wofford, Penn plays Quinnipiac, Oregon State welcomes Western Illinois and Wyoming battles North Dakota State.
This is the fifth year for the CBI, which features a single-elimination format until the best-of-three championship series.
Oregon won the CBI last year.
