Burns retains WBO lightweight title

Glasgow, Scotland – WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns retained his title with a ninth round TKO over previously unbeaten Jose Gonzalez on Saturday night.

Burns (36-2, 11 KOs) started to take control of the fight in round seven. Gonzalez (22-1, 17 KOs) quit on his stool citing an injured wrist following round nine.
