Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon played his first game following a back injury that had sidelined him since Italy's World Cup opener in June, helping Juventus reach the Italian Cup quarterfinals with a 2-0 victory over Napoli on Thursday night.

"It feels great," said Buffon, who had surgery July 4. "I have won a World Cup and played in a Champions League final and this may only be an Italian Cup match, but I am very satisfied with the game."

Milos Krasic scored off Alessandro Del Piero's cross in the 35th minute, then fed Simone Pepe for the second goal in the 54th.

Juventus forward Luca Toni, acquired this month from Genoa, limped off with a right knee injury in the 18th minute and will be examined Friday. Juventus plays Roma or Lazio in the quarterfinals.

MADRID (AP) — Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 31st goal of the season, helping Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid 3-1 in the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarterfinals.

In a highly charged derby played at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Diego Forlan slotted home the opener for Atletico in the seventh minute, but Sergio Ramos tied it when he headed home Angel Di Maria's corner kick in the 14th.

While Atletico goalkeeper David De Gea kept the visitors in contention with a number of outstanding stops, Ronaldo stabbed Mesut Oezil's bouncing cross in at the far post in the 61st minute, his first goal against Atletico. Oezil added the final goal in the 90th.

Ronaldo has 22 league goals, four in the Champions League and five in the Copa del Rey

Almeria beat Deportivo La Coruna 1-0 earlier Thursday.
